INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
Due to COVID-19, I was unable to attend webinars physically, so I joined them through zoom calls. These webinars I have attended were related to cyber security which is very relevant to the course that I am currently pursuing. The 2 webinars I joined was :
-

Webinar 1 - Cybersecurity in the light of COVID-19
Hosted by Innovation Cybersecurity Ecosystem at Block 71 (ICE71)

There were several panel webcasts in this webinar but one of it particularly caught my attention.

They talked about how COVID-19 has encouraged more companies and people to use technologies. Its surprising that all while, we were capable of work or have classes remotely instead of going to office or school. But of course, companies that were not equipped with the proper technologies will face some difficulties but most of them eventually managed to adapt to the new way of living.

This pandemic also changed people's views about cybersecurity. Majority of the population did not take cyber security seriously because they were in the office and such. Now that everything has shifted to their homes, they are more concerned about getting hacked and paid more attention to their home network and the traffic that is coming in.

I learnt a lot from this webinar. There are advantages and disadvantages to working or studying in this manner. We may find it more convenient as we no longer have to wake up extra early just to get ready and travel to our destination. I used to wake up 2 hours before my lesson start so I will have sufficient time to get ready and travel to school. Now I just wake up 30 minutes before my lesson and attend my classes in pajamas. But everyone needs some form of human interaction and being coped up in a small space for a long period of time can affect one's mental health. Also, I rather ask my lectures any queries face-to-face as they can reply me on the spot compared to messaging them.

All in all, I think this pandemic has evolved the world into a digital one and made us use the resources we built into good use. This would probably be our new lifestyle until a vaccine for the virus is found.

Webinar 2 - Cybersecurity
Hosted by Kaplan

In this webinar I learnt plenty about the cybersecurity industry. The speaker was actually a professional in this industry and he shared about the different jobs available and what level of education is needed for these jobs.

There are different categories in this industry. There are 7 categories to choose from the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework. So based on my interest, I can choose which category I like and narrow down to the job choices I have. Before entering this webinar, I had no idea about these categories and I thought all jobs focus are the same.

Most jobs in this industry require a degree which I am not surprised because cybersecurity require loads of knowledge and expertise to know what the hacker is thinking and doing. What I was surprised was the price to pay in order to join classes and get the certificate. The price is very expensive and would probably take up all my money that I have been saving for years.

After attending this webinar, I learnt that I have to spending my money wisely and save up so I can afford to pay for my certificate when I graduate from polytechnic. I have planned my timeline for the future and I want to follow it as closely as possible and not waste any time. I should also pay more attention to my networking modules because the speaker did mentioned that networking is one of the basic knowledge everyone in this industry should have.
